It comes from the fact that on MIT there was different terminology than among other Lifenthusiasts, e.g they were calling the loaf 'Bread loaf', or for short, 'Burloaf'. The burloaf has 7 cells, and this oscillator measures it with its period (p7), hence the name - burloaferimeter.
