This oscillator is named the LAPUTA after a flying island near Japan, inhabited by mad scientists. Swift had Gulliver visit Laputa on his 3rd voyage, having visited Lilliput and Brobingnag on the first and second.

It was the 4th voyage from which he returned quite insane. Swift also went insane in his last years.
